The Joy In Being Where Your Feet Are
Basel, Binging & Being Present
I know I’ve been getting deep with you in the “Pearls” these past few weeks, but this week, I’m taking it back to the old days—when Pearl in my Oysta was just us, catching up and sharing a little girl time. Because honestly, babe, not everymoment needs to be a learning moment.
So, here’s where I’m at: I’m writing this from Miami, at what feels like my 900th Art Basel. Every year, I tell myself, “I’m not doing this again,” because, honestly? It’s madness. The traffic, the crowds, the energy—it can feel like the whole city has completely lost the plot. But this year? I’m having the most zen Basel experience ever.
Maybe it’s age, or maybe it’s that I just don’t care about “seeing and being seen” anymore. Either way, I’ve leaned all the way into being where my feet are, and it’s made this trip unexpectedly amazing. I’m staying with my friend Kimberly—it’s our third Basel together—and we’re totally on the same vibe. Not gonna lie, we’ve spent more hours bingeing The Later Daters on Netflix than looking at art or catching up with the “cool” people. And you know what? No regrets.
If you’re not watching The Later Daters yet, please do. It’s a hilarious new dating show for people 50+, produced by none other than Michelle Obama. It’s joyful, funny, and honestly, exactly the kind of energy we need more of.
The pearl in my oysta this week? Going at your own pace and staying exactly where your feet are. Stop chasing the next thing, the next event, or the next “moment.” The best part of life is usually happening right now. Trust me, babe.
